CHESTER – NATIONAL SMART CARD PROJECT EARLY STARTER
Smartran
was engaged by Chester for the first implementation of the National Smart
Card Project “starter kit” and rollout to a council run leisure centre.
The work undertaken included technical project manager, solution design,
data conversion, technical integration and testing. The “starter kit” included
back office database, enrolment web-site, integration with existing leisure
management system and data export to bureau smart card print personalisation
and production. The planned timescales were achieved by adopting a flexible
resilient design, overcoming programme issues and taking the initiative
to resolve technical issues.
Once the new system was implemented, existing leisure centre members were
converted to the new card and all new applicants went through a single
enrolment for the new smart card and leisure membership. The back office
database is designed to support multiple applications or services for each
cardholder. Initially leisure, car park permit and marketing information
can be captured for each card holder.
To ensure a smooth implementation, the project
required the co-ordination of six service providers covering telecoms,
back office systems, front
office systems and card production without impacting the existing card
services.
Smartran is continuing to assist Chester, as the council considers upgrading
to the final NSCP software release, extending the use of the existing
card applications and adding more applications to the smart card.
