Smartran is delighted to announce that an eight month project for the London Borough of Waltham Forest has culminated in the rollout of the OneCard smartcard to tenants in the borough. Initially the smartcard will be used to enable tenants to make rent and council tax payments. The project provides the borough with a platform to rollout further smartcard based applications.

DFT National Financial Clearing Infrastructure Strategy Paper

Smartran has recently authored a research and recommendations paper for the Department for Transport (DFT) as part of TCF Working Group 12.  The paper looked at current clearing and settlement systems in the banking, airline and rail industries and generated recommendations for a national Smartcard financial clearing infrastructure, taking into account emerging national and European standards.

NATIONAL SMART CARD PROJECT

Smartran has undertaken the management and co-ordination of dissemination of output from the National Smartcard Project (NSCP).  This work has involved co-ordination of editorial panel work, progress tracking, management reporting, co-ordination of suppliers creating CD and web-based output channels and overall documentation control.  The completed output has been delivered by CD and web extranet to scope, budget and schedule by all the suppliers being managed.

TICKETING SYSTEMS AND TICKET ON DEPARTURE

Smartran is currently assisting the rail industry with the technical assessment of new self service and web-based ticketing systems which will feature enhanced security features and support the growing demand for ticket on departure.  Customers are increasingly buying tickets on line or via the web for collection at a station of their choice before they travel.  In addition we are providing project management services to the rail industry to extend and improve the national ticket on departure service.

SERVICE AUDIT

Smartran has undertaken a service audit which included review of contractual arrangements and service history, interviewing key team members, inspection visit to the main service provider and presentation of findings.  The final report identified the strengths and weaknesses for the current service and commercial arrangements. The project included recommendations for future delivery of the service and input to a strategy study.
